The so-called Family Investment Company has existed for some years, but we’ve recently seen a significant increase in interest in setting up these structures. This partly results from legal changes to the way certain trusts are treated, making them less advantageous to families than was previously the case. But the increased appetite for FICs may also simply result from increased publicity and familiarity with them as a phenomenon.
